I don't see a problem with who picks what really so long as they don't die in 3 seconds and know what they're doing.
I personally would never pick a female character unless I got something REALLLLYY good out of it.
My wife played a Ranger girl and I'm fine looking at her.
My main character is the shortest model warrior with venom green armor [shineys] and blond hair...
Bah* ^_^

That could be very true
From my perspective, I don't really care who is behind the avatar and I don't tell people my personal vital stats. It's a game, it just so happens I'd rather stare at a female character.

Guys have less trouble role-playing females because they have less of something we ladies have *too* much of: empathy, outerward-relating and outward-percepting.
Empathy: Being able to completely immerse yourself in the emotional viewpoitn of someone else. Sometimes even feeling the actual emotions of others.
Everyone's seen this: Something great happens to one of two girls, both girls equally scream in joy! One women says she lost someone dear in their family and both of them cry at a point where you can't tell which one actually lost the family member!
Outwards-relating: When someone hears a story and feels bad and/or understands completely what that person is going through even though they've never had any experience close to it.
Outwards-perception: Being able to understand why someone acts a certain way they do and what beleifs cause this. That's why female doctors and psychologists are sometimes much more efficient that men. They can understand other viewpoints a little too well.
Alot of women have this overwhelming insight over other people's emotions and feelings, some are better than others and some just don't have it them but fact is that when they play male avatars they just feel....strange.
Men have the stoic inner confidence and pride going for them and are most of the time blunt, unafraid of self-expression etc...
So playing female avatars is no big deal at all.

I just *can't* play a male avatar because when I do, I feel estranged, i feel like I have to act differently and... I just can't!
For some women this is an overwhelming experience. For others they don't feel it at all. But a great majority of us just don't....feel right playing male characters. End of story

I would rather play with female players whether or not they are playing as a female in the game. Female players, generally, handle themselves better, are more mature, are friendlier, appreciative, courteous & less inclined to spew garbage out of thier mouths.

<---Female IRL, all female characters.
Sure, I get the "take ur close of" from those wanting cheap thrills, but I just tell them they don't have enough money to pay for it.
It's all fantasy... and my fantasy is to be petite and cute, or tall and elegantly beautiful, or what-have-you. My fantasy is not to play a male, but that's me.
And yes, I will always refer to someone as He/She depending on their model. It is very shocking when people are offended by that: a female monk shouting "I'm a dude!" when you refer to her as "her." What's with that? Either play your character or don't.

I am also a woman IRL, but I have a male monk....why? I wanted to name him for the patron saint of lost causes (good name for a monk, right?). Well, that is Saint Jude. Jude is not, IMO, a female's name. And so my monk had to be male in order for me to name the character what I wanted it to be. And yes, I do view healing moronic Wa/Mos who feel the need to aggro 4 groups at once to be a lost cause. That's why Jude is now a prot mok.

what does IRL stand for?
over the years i have started only a few female characters and i always end up deleting them. simply put, it feels weird for me to run anything but a male character since i'm a guy.

I don't need no fancy words like "empathy" to describe this kind of behaviour, I just call this "GO RED ENGINE nuts".

Hi i'm a male and I wanted to test in GW how i would be treated as a Female... Surprisling i was getting Quest done alot more faster when people accepted my request for joining my mission's.. Yet when i logged on my male.. I was getting go do it your self you lazzy bumm.. or something and i was like well some of the quest are very hard with henchman... i feel some reason People respond more to the female characters more politly .. I've had help on my new Ranger/necro tho. I guess it all depends on what time you play the game.

Yes, I think it must be something like that. The first real answer I received to my original post's second question btw (typical how men interpret this question as one about armor and stuff ).
My guess is that women on average care more about how they come across and feel that they should not misrepresent themselves or try playing a role that does not suit them. Men, on averega, just don't care that much about that sort of thing.
"I often read a post on a message board and think to myself, "that person needs to get off his/her computer and read a book!"
Why, I can point you to few shelves full of books about just this sort of topic. Just look for 'gender studies' in any university library. But I am about to finish a good book, so if you are going to take time away from reading to make such a pointless point, please include your book recommendations.

Sure they do. You've never had a father yelling in your face "Just wait until you get out in the real world and have to get a real job with real responsibilities?
